The City of Los Angeles shows off two of its newest garbage trucks. A trash collection and compaction unit is affixed to a cutaway Ford Truck chassis. The city is not opting for smaller garbage trucks. Rather, these will be used for a program where garbage collectors will "audit" bins to make sure the proper waste is put in the correct bin.
If something is improperly disposed of, like aluminum cans in a black bin or nonrecyclable refuse in a blue bin, a warning ticket will be taped to the trash can. No word on whether repeat "offenses" lead to a citation.

TRUCK IN TOKYO Tuesday, August 11, 2009
For those not that familiar with the Tokyo auto show, it's massive and includes not only cars, but motorcycles and large commercial vehicles (trucks!) as well.
With that in mind Mitsubishi Fuso showed their hybrid concept dump truck that was on display. Called the Canter Eco-D, it has a powertrain similar to the Canter Eco Hybrid light-duty truck, which as been in production by MFTBC since 2006. Being a parallel hybrid system, the power to drive the vehicle comes from the vehicle's electric motor, the diesel engine or both...

NEW MITSUBISHI TRUCK
I have always like the design of Mitsubishi compact pickup truck. Mitsubishi Triton actually originated in Malaysia as Mitsubishi Storm. Triton always have this tough and powerful design that attracts a lot of truck buyers. The TMR Triton is a concept vehicle which closely represents a production reality.
This concept model will be using 3.2 litre common rail turbo diesel engine that provides an impressive 132kW @ 3,800rpm and torque to a phenomenal 450Nm @ 2,000rmp. This is an increase from the current model. Fitted with Koni 8240 series shock absorbers at the front and back to provide the comfort needed for your weekend out of the town.
Mitsubishi Triton uses Super Select 4WD system that enable the driver to choose from 2WD, full time 4WD or 4WD high / low range.

Dump Truck of the Future Wednesday, August 5, 2009
It is about time someone designed one that has totally broken the traditional configuration of a Dump Truck! It is really impressive how this designer re-thought how one would operate, and then used that insight to designed a break-through product. Absolutely amazing concept, and sure sign of the amazing pedigree of Chinese designers to come.

TRUCK IN THE FUTURE `Sport Utility Truck'
New Isuzu Concept Vehicle Combines the Award-winning Isuzu Axiom SUV
with Pickup Features Creating a Hybrid for Active Lifestyles
What do you get when you cross the award-winning Isuzu Axiom SUV with the enhanced cargo-carrying flexibility of an open-air pickup bed? A dynamic new concept vehicle dubbed the Axiom XST, which will be unveiled Jan. 7, 2002, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
As a showcase of Isuzu technology, the XST combines bold styling, advanced engineering and "switchgate" versatility into a next generation sport utility truck (SUT).
Switchgate Magic
The Axiom XST demonstrates how an SUT can effectively bridge the gap between an SUV and pickup combining a spacious, five-passenger cabin with an open bed to accommodate bulky, wet or dirty cargo. If additional cargo space is needed, the driver can lift the rear window and fold the switchgate down to create an extended bed. The XST also offers an integrated flip-fold bed extender that can further expand the bed length. Custom designed multi-functional roof/cargo racks allow for additional carrying capacity. The XST is the perfect companion for weekend warriors seeking a multi-functional and off-road capable vehicle that offers passenger-car ride quality and interior comforts

Giant Flatbiller Truck Saturday, August 1, 2009
One of the favorite flatbiller rides is what we like to call the "Giant Bro Truck". Our studies show that 93% of a flatbiller's masculinity comes directly from the space under their truck. This leads them to create monstrous displays of manhood that handle worse than an 18 wheeler on the street, but that will not stop a flatbiller from tailgating you at 80 mph down to the end of the cul-de-sac
Please note that increased off-road performance is not actually the goal of a modified flatbiller truck. A truck such as the one pictured above would not pass even the simplest of off-road challenges, due to it's awkward center of gravity and extreme weight. This does not bother the owner of the Giant Bro Truck, because the most off-roading that it will ever see will be when it runs over a curb in the Supercross parking lot.
Another advantage of having a truck this big: nobody will be able to steal your dirt bike. This allows the flatbiller to leave the dirt bike in their truck seven days a week to show it off at school, thus receiving the coveted "bro nod" from fellow flatbillers.

Aixam Mega Truck
For Transeum’s first truck story we thought we would feature the Aixam Mega Truck because it is not only practical it is so cute! These trucks come from Lyon in France, we took this shot at the Paris Motor Show and really wanted to bring it home. The vehicle has been designed to be a low environmental impact utility vehicle which has been built for short hauls around cities. It has an aluminum chassis and most of its body parts are made up of polycarbonate panels and parts. There are two choices for power plant, either a diesel or a very environmentally friendly zero emission electric engine. The basic truck is just under three metres long, and one and a half metres wide and has a payload of 425 kg for the electric and 460 for the diesel. Being so light it is an ideal vehicle to use in cities and as the body is so safe it is very pedestrian friendly, a lot of councils, and even hospitals and resorts across Europe are switching to these vehicles for street sweeping and other city duties. And just as a final point to this vehicles environmental credentials- the truck is 100% recyclable once its life is over.

The tiny truck
We spotted this tiny truck tooling along the sidewalk today at St. Rose and it made us smile. It almost looked like it would tip over when the guy got in the driver's seat.
We can only hope they use the trucks to deliver something equally tiny and cute and a little weird. Like garden gnomes.

SPARWOOD
After this minor detour we rolled into Fernie. Seems it is their 100th anniversary so they are re-doing the main street in town. They are making it a pedestrian plaza, most of the stores are closed until the construction is completed, but we still got a feel for the town. Dan bought me a Lonely Planet guide to B.C. since I didn’t have one and was feeling lost with out a relevant guide book to read.
We visited the grocery store here and learned that B.C. makes buying liquor almost as hard as Utah does- actually it may be harder up here because you can’t even buy 3.2 in the grocery stores. So we had to improvise and make up yet another gin concoction that no one would ever put on a bar menu. Alas it gets the job done.
