Trash Trucks Thursday, August 13, 2009

The City of Los Angeles shows off two of its newest garbage trucks. A trash collection and compaction unit is affixed to a cutaway Ford Truck chassis. The city is not opting for smaller garbage trucks. Rather, these will be used for a program where garbage collectors will "audit" bins to make sure the proper waste is put in the correct bin.

If something is improperly disposed of, like aluminum cans in a black bin or nonrecyclable refuse in a blue bin, a warning ticket will be taped to the trash can. No word on whether repeat "offenses" lead to a citation.

TRUCK IN TOKYO Tuesday, August 11, 2009

For those not that familiar with the Tokyo auto show, it's massive and includes not only cars, but motorcycles and large commercial vehicles (trucks!) as well.

With that in mind Mitsubishi Fuso showed their hybrid concept dump truck that was on display. Called the Canter Eco-D, it has a powertrain similar to the Canter Eco Hybrid light-duty truck, which as been in production by MFTBC since 2006. Being a parallel hybrid system, the power to drive the vehicle comes from the vehicle's electric motor, the diesel engine or both...

NEW MITSUBISHI TRUCK

I have always like the design of Mitsubishi compact pickup truck. Mitsubishi Triton actually originated in Malaysia as Mitsubishi Storm. Triton always have this tough and powerful design that attracts a lot of truck buyers. The TMR Triton is a concept vehicle which closely represents a production reality.

This concept model will be using 3.2 litre common rail turbo diesel engine that provides an impressive 132kW @ 3,800rpm and torque to a phenomenal 450Nm @ 2,000rmp. This is an increase from the current model. Fitted with Koni 8240 series shock absorbers at the front and back to provide the comfort needed for your weekend out of the town.

Mitsubishi Triton uses Super Select 4WD system that enable the driver to choose from 2WD, full time 4WD or 4WD high / low range.

Dump Truck of the Future Wednesday, August 5, 2009

It is about time someone designed one that has totally broken the traditional configuration of a Dump Truck! It is really impressive how this designer re-thought how one would operate, and then used that insight to designed a break-through product. Absolutely amazing concept, and sure sign of the amazing pedigree of Chinese designers to come.

TRUCK IN THE FUTURE `Sport Utility Truck'

New Isuzu Concept Vehicle Combines the Award-winning Isuzu Axiom SUV
with Pickup Features Creating a Hybrid for Active Lifestyles

What do you get when you cross the award-winning Isuzu Axiom SUV with the enhanced cargo-carrying flexibility of an open-air pickup bed? A dynamic new concept vehicle dubbed the Axiom XST, which will be unveiled Jan. 7, 2002, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
As a showcase of Isuzu technology, the XST combines bold styling, advanced engineering and "switchgate" versatility into a next generation sport utility truck (SUT).

Switchgate Magic

The Axiom XST demonstrates how an SUT can effectively bridge the gap between an SUV and pickup combining a spacious, five-passenger cabin with an open bed to accommodate bulky, wet or dirty cargo. If additional cargo space is needed, the driver can lift the rear window and fold the switchgate down to create an extended bed. The XST also offers an integrated flip-fold bed extender that can further expand the bed length. Custom designed multi-functional roof/cargo racks allow for additional carrying capacity. The XST is the perfect companion for weekend warriors seeking a multi-functional and off-road capable vehicle that offers passenger-car ride quality and interior comforts

This is not the only one monster truck from Russia; a military SUV-type truck is now being offered to public. BRDM: has 10mm all-around armor, it can swim up to 8 mph, has leather interior and unprecedented off-road abilities

Giant Flatbiller Truck Saturday, August 1, 2009

One of the favorite flatbiller rides is what we like to call the "Giant Bro Truck". Our studies show that 93% of a flatbiller's masculinity comes directly from the space under their truck. This leads them to create monstrous displays of manhood that handle worse than an 18 wheeler on the street, but that will not stop a flatbiller from tailgating you at 80 mph down to the end of the cul-de-sac

Please note that increased off-road performance is not actually the goal of a modified flatbiller truck. A truck such as the one pictured above would not pass even the simplest of off-road challenges, due to it's awkward center of gravity and extreme weight. This does not bother the owner of the Giant Bro Truck, because the most off-roading that it will ever see will be when it runs over a curb in the Supercross parking lot.

Another advantage of having a truck this big: nobody will be able to steal your dirt bike. This allows the flatbiller to leave the dirt bike in their truck seven days a week to show it off at school, thus receiving the coveted "bro nod" from fellow flatbillers.

SPECIALLY MODIFIED TRUCK

Our specially modified trucks are exceptionally equipped for both comfort and capability. The large tires have several advantages and allow us to go virtually anywhere. Each truck is also fully equipped to ensure a safe journey with VHF radios, Satellite Communications, Global Positioning System (GPS), and Navigation Systems.. If you are interested, don’t hesitate to ask your chauffeur-guides about the truck’s modifications..

MOST MODIFIED TRUCK

Luigi Colani, a Swiss-German industrial designer, in collaboration with Mercedes have produced these Colani Trucks back in the 80s, and now their design has improved drastically.

MODIFIED TRUCK

Cool! I’ve seen lots of modified trucks over the years on the road, but never one like this!

Aixam Mega Truck

For Transeum’s first truck story we thought we would feature the Aixam Mega Truck because it is not only practical it is so cute! These trucks come from Lyon in France, we took this shot at the Paris Motor Show and really wanted to bring it home. The vehicle has been designed to be a low environmental impact utility vehicle which has been built for short hauls around cities. It has an aluminum chassis and most of its body parts are made up of polycarbonate panels and parts. There are two choices for power plant, either a diesel or a very environmentally friendly zero emission electric engine. The basic truck is just under three metres long, and one and a half metres wide and has a payload of 425 kg for the electric and 460 for the diesel. Being so light it is an ideal vehicle to use in cities and as the body is so safe it is very pedestrian friendly, a lot of councils, and even hospitals and resorts across Europe are switching to these vehicles for street sweeping and other city duties. And just as a final point to this vehicles environmental credentials- the truck is 100% recyclable once its life is over.

CUTE LITTLE TRUCK

You can see these cute little buggers on satellite NHK TV Japan rescuing typhoon victims, carrying construction materials, working on farms and having a generally fun time:

Cute Truck

In Japan, even the trucks are adorable.

The tiny truck

We spotted this tiny truck tooling along the sidewalk today at St. Rose and it made us smile. It almost looked like it would tip over when the guy got in the driver's seat.

We can only hope they use the trucks to deliver something equally tiny and cute and a little weird. Like garden gnomes.

NEW BIG-WHEEL TRUCK

SOME BUDDY, gives a new meaning to big-wheel truck while carrying people around the McMurdo station

SPARWOOD

After this minor detour we rolled into Fernie. Seems it is their 100th anniversary so they are re-doing the main street in town. They are making it a pedestrian plaza, most of the stores are closed until the construction is completed, but we still got a feel for the town. Dan bought me a Lonely Planet guide to B.C. since I didn’t have one and was feeling lost with out a relevant guide book to read.

We visited the grocery store here and learned that B.C. makes buying liquor almost as hard as Utah does- actually it may be harder up here because you can’t even buy 3.2 in the grocery stores. So we had to improvise and make up yet another gin concoction that no one would ever put on a bar menu. Alas it gets the job done.

2009 Suzuki Equator Friday, July 31, 2009

Suzuki has chosen a rather dubious time to enter the pickup truck market with the 2009 Equator. As you are surely aware, trucks and SUV sales are way down from their apogee a few years back, and small cars like the ones that have historically filled Suzuki showrooms are all the rage.

NEW HEAVY TRUCK 2009 Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Freightliner Innovation Truck - Click above for high-res image gallery According to the American Trucking Association, there has been a 41 percent increase in registered large trucks and an 84 percent increase in miles traveled by large trucks from 1986 to 2006. That equals lots of diesel fuel consumed. Fortunately, a new report from Coordinating Research Council and the Health Effects Institute shows that pollution from heavy trucks and buses is actually improving at a faster rate than automobiles

2009 FORD Sunday, July 26, 2009

The Ford F-250 Super Chief concept takes truck leadership to a new level as the world's first vehicle with Tri-Flex fueling, enabling the supercharged V-10 to run for 500 miles between fill-ups on hydrogen, E85 ethanol or gasoline. The tri-fuel flexibility is one possible innovation by Ford to help pave the way for hydrogen vehicles, as the nation's ethanol and hydrogen fueling infrastructure continues to develop. The concept truck and its name are inspired by the bold, American Super Chief trains of the nation's past. Super Chief is Ford's most advanced, well-appointed pickup ever – designed to build on the standard for interior excellence established by the new F-150. Super Chief features an interior paneled in American walnut, brushed aluminum and bold brown leather. Convenience features include bold light-emitting diode (LED) headlamps, a full glass roof and automated ottoman. Running on hydrogen, the supercharged V-10 engine provides up to 12 percent fuel economy improvement on an energy equivalent basis versus a non-supercharged gasoline V-10 – and nearly 500 miles per fill-up. In addition, when operating on hydrogen, the Tri-Flex V-10 generates 99 percent less CO2 emissions than when running on gasoline. The Tri-Flex system leverages existing powertrain technologies in which Ford has long held leadership. Since 1996, Ford has led in production and sales of flex-fuel E85 ethanol/gasoline vehicles. Ford has built flex-fuel vehicles that operate on any mix of E85 and gasoline. The Ford F-250 Super Chief epitomizes bold, American design and features an innovative Tri-Flex fuel engine that can run on hydrogen, E85 or gasoline.

ANTIQUE TRUCK JOYRIDES

1925 Ford Model T T fire truck was brought to the Old Car Festival by Tom Collins of Nashville, Tenn

More than 600 cars and trucks in various conditions, dating from the turn of the last century into the early 1930s, lined the streets of the village, awaiting their turns to pass in review before historians Marty Bufalini, Bob Casey, David Liepelt and Glenn Miller.
Period trucks bring a special twist to the festival that often appears dominated by Ford Model A's and T's.
Tom Collins has a Ford T of a different kind, a 1925 Ford Model TT (Model T Truck) fire truck, which he brought up from Nashville, Tenn.
"This was a rural truck and I think it was originally from around here somewhere," Collins said, as he loaded family and friends onto the open (no cab) vehicle for a ride to his designated spot along Christie Street.
The truck's two tanks together hold around 50 gallons of water which would have been mixed with chemicals like baking soda in brass containers before being sprayed on fires, he said.
The "same day response" painted on the sides of the truck let you know it might be a while before help arrived. Collins pointed to several buckets on board, saying they were most likely used if a well or stream were available. Fire hydrants were not an option in the countryside.
"The chassis was built by Ford here in Michigan, then shipped to Logansport, Indiana, where it was converted into a fire truck," said Collins, adding that this was his fourth time at the Old Car Festival

LARGE TRUCK CRACHES

Large trucks account for a disproportionately large share of traffic deaths based on miles traveled. The fatal crash rate for large trucks is 50 percent greater than the rate for all vehicles on the roads.

THE LIBEHERR

All large trucks like the T282 don't just have wing mirrors to see what is behind when they reverse; they also have video cameras, usually two on either side and another on the rear axle, to give the driver a full view of the road around him or her.

HUGE TRUCK

Friday was karaoke night at Common Interest. We are on the way there (an hour late) and I get a phone call from Arthur asking where my bro is! I call my bro and get no answer. Surely he's at CI and Arthur just can't find him!As we roll into the parking lot, I notice the unusual abundance of large trucks double parked in the parking lot. Now, I know this is Texas and there are a lot of big trucks driving around here

ROAD TRAIN

I love trains and I love trucks. For a long time I thought the two were mutually exclusive, that is until I discovered road trains. Road trains are simply extremely large trucks towing anywhere from 3 to 6 full-sized trailers behind them. This allows trucks to move massive loads across barren areas where there are no train tracks, such as the center of Australia or the barren state of Nevada.
In case you hadn’t guessed already the road train is product of those crazy boys from down under. I discovered an excellent television hosted by Jeremy Clarkson called Motor World. In this series Clarkson travels to the different reaches of the world exploring their automotive history and culture. I found a segment of Motor World where Jeremy Clarkson is exploring the outback and takes an in depth look at road trains. He even interviews the gent who invented the concept of road trains. This a really great program and I will try to dig up more snip-its from it in the future

ART TRUCK

"This was shot in Aichi Japan at a Truck Show for kids May 5 during the end of ‘Golden Week’ last year. The man pictured here is the owner of the truck which is a customized refrigerated delivery truck. He put about American into getting it just right. It’s actually pouring down rain (you can see the rain drops in the foggy area on the right side of the image) and I am holding an umbrella over my Mark II while shooting this 8 sec exposure…. Aichi is a small farm town in the middle of nowhere, but 300 of these ‘Art Trucks’ from various truck clubs showed up to help fund-raise for less fortunate kids."

FUTURE HST TRUCK

The HST truck is an idea to provide long distance transport facilities to the developed market of the year 2030. Maximizing the productivity by reducing expenses while increasing revenue is the main goal of this innovative truck. Since the main headache of haulage firms in the fuel expense, this truck was designed to lessen co-efficient to ensure minimal air resistance. Therefore, it aims to incorporate slippery body panel, sleek aerodynamic deature by a conical front, flush body with no protrusions wipers, mirrors, etc. Additionally, the HST truck aims to be longer than traditional trucks.

HEAVY TRUCK

The genesis for these one-of-a-kind trucks came from Jim Carello’s desire to bring his enthusiasm for hot rods and motorcycles into the truck world – but not just as a hobby. In particular, he wanted to show the truck buying public that “aerodynamic” tractors – the kind favored by fleets for their fuel-sipping sleekness – can pack just as much “wow” factor punch as their classic, square nosed brethren.

COOL TRUCK

Yet these products of extreme imagination of Jim Carello and son Jason – dealer principle and general manager, respectively, of a chain of truck and equipment dealerships in upstate New York – aren’t just vanity projects. They were designed to prove a point – that aerodynamically-shaped trucks can be just as far-out and glamorous as any rig with a square hood, if not more so

DECENT TRUCK

Would you believe a BMW M5 is more aerodynamic than a Z06? Well, it is. The same goes for the trucks. A well designed cabover can be very aerodynamically efficient.
Combined with Euro speed regulations, more side skirts, shorter trailer-cab distances, super singles, etc...Euro trucks use less gas on average than US trucks
